I am the minority opinion but I would sail Epic over Breakaway. Yes Breakaway did correct some of the quirks like the split bathrooms, made the walls straight and not curved, added an outside area for restaurants, etc. But IMHO Epic is a superior ship. Epic got such flack that Breakaway suffers from any innovation and is just a modern basic ship.
Nightlife on Norwegian Breakaway
There are still differences such as bed near balcony or bed near "bathroom" as well as sink near foot of the bed or sink near head of the bed. I would pick the Breakaway because it’s slightly newer. Those who love a good shower will appreciate the multiple water jets and two showerheads in the mini-suites. During the day, one of the quietest spots to have a drink is at the Uptown Bar and Grill; we also love the Atrium Bar when there is no entertainment going on (fairly rare, alas).

Ship's Godmothers are the "ROCKETTES" (from the NYC’s "Radio City Music Hall"). They were special guests on the ship's first 6 cruises, and since then - on the first sailing of every month. Norwegian Breakaway itinerary program is based on year-round roundtrip cruises from homeport NYC New York to Bermuda and Bahamas. In November 2018, the ship was repositioned to the Carribean and homeported in New Orleans (NOLA), making Breakaway NOLA's largest homeported liner ever. The 16 Spa Suites measure 344 square feet and are located near the Mandara Spa. Additionally, the Breakaway Plus-class ships have the largest The Haven suite enclaves in the fleet. Three of the four ships spread The Haven across two decks, with about 80 suites inside. The area also includes a large lounge -- on three ships, it's a massive observation lounge with gorgeous forward views -- as well as a restaurant, covered pool deck and outdoor sun deck.

Kids are divided by age groups -- Turtles (3 to 5), Seals (6 to 9) and Dolphins (10 to 12) -- and daily activities for each are typically themed. Other themes include Tribes at Sea, the Big Top at Sea and Rumble in the Jungle. During the programs, kids enjoy arts and crafts, games, movies and video games. Norwegian Bliss, Joy and Escape have the seafood specialty venue Ocean Blue; the equivalent venue on Escape is called Bayamo by Ocean Blue and features a different menu. While infants 6 to 35 months are welcome onboard and have their own Guppies program, the program requires parents to participate, and the ship does not provide a childcare service. However, the Guppies program does provide some fun for parents with babies, including the Wee Can Too program that lets infants be artists with special edible paints (made with vegetables). A full range of couples-themed experiences is offered, including a couples massage and bathing ritual, and steam Rasul therapy.
Instead of go-karts, laser tag and VR games, it has a low-tech ropes course and two-lane duckpin bowling. The standard side balconies on Breakaway/ Getaway are very small. However, there are some angled balconies that are the same price as standard that are about 50% larger. In addition, there are larger and much larger/deeper side balconies that cost a bit more than standard. Finally, there are aft-facing balconies that are much deeper than standard but those vary in depth and width depending on location. Having sailed on both a few times, I’d recommend the Breakaway over the Epic, especially to a newcomer to NCL.
Thanks and nice to hear as after looking into this ship there are some not so nice reviews on her. Had me wondering but I know take those with a grain of salt as some like to complain to complain. Nice to hear you enjoy this ship, thanks for your post. Having said that, our very first NCL trip was on Epic with 3 people in a club balcony and we not only survived but took 10+ other NCL trips since then. Full disclosure though, the last Epic trip and this upcoming one will be in Haven.
The 32 aft-facing balcony cabins (category B1) on the Norwegian Breakaway are found on decks 8 through 14. These 204 square-foot cabins have two lower pillow-top beds that can be combined into a queen-sized bed. The 449 inside cabins (categories IA, IE, IB, IC, IF, ID, IX) on the Norwegian Breakaway measure 151 square feet. They include most of the features found in the oceanview and balcony cabins but have no window or balcony. The 248 mini-suites look much like the balcony cabins, but are larger and have a more luxurious bath with double sinks and a shower with multiple jets.
Evenings are punctuated by music all over Norwegian Breakaway. Hotspots include the Atrium, where a duet sings pop tunes; Maltings, where you can listen to guitar music; and Shakers, the ship's martini bar, host to yet another duo.
